about the artist
Manuela Holzer was born into a creative Austrian family. Her late Viennese grandmother, Grete Zimmer, was a famous actress in Austria and was also well known in many parts of Germany and Switzerland. Manuela matriculated from the Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2008 and thereafter decided to pursue her passion for art. She initially studied at the University of Witwatersrand where she completed her Bachelor in Fine Art in 2012. In 2013 she completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Education cum laude at the University of Johannesburg. Thereafter Manuela moved to the Western Cape to study further and received a Master’s degree in Visual Art from the University of Stellenbosch in 2016. She currently resides in Cape Town and furthers her artistic practice by creating sculptures of the female figure in various media exploring the notion of the internal shadow.
